About Mr. Logan
I was born and raised in Prince George and graduated from O'Grady Catholic High School in 1999. I completed a degree in Honours History at the University of Victoria in December 2009 and completed my master's degree in history at UVic in December 2012. The focus of my graduate work was U.S. Cold War history, but I have backgrounds in world, European, and modern Middle Eastern history. As you can probably tell, I'm passionate about history and I really look forward to sharing my enthusiasm with your student.
My wife and I have lived in Victoria for the previous decade. During that time, however, I have spent roughly one third of every year doing forestry-related work in the B.C. Interior around Prince George, Vanderhoof, Mackenzie, and the B.C. Peace. For the past six years I have worked as an Initial Attack fire fighter with the B.C. Forest Service.
My experiences working in the B.C. Interior have taught me much about some of the issues faced by people who live in the region. In particular, I am interested in the tension that is created between industry, environmentalists, First Nations, government, and ordinary citizens as we grapple together with the challenges of finding sustainable methods of economic development that benefit the region as a whole. My interest in local issues informs my teaching as I continually strive to work with my students to draw connections between the prescribed curriculum and issues that impact students and their immediate surroundings. Social studies is a great topic for making these connections!
I place a very high value on respect in my classroom. If my students and I are to engage critically with issues, everyone needs to feel that they can freely express their opinions, provided they do so in a respectful manner. I want students to feel that they are safe to share their voice with their peers and know that whether or not their views are shared by others in the class, they will always be respected.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. My door is always open!
